Meet The Team

Dr. Amie Hornaman

Dr. Amie Hornaman “The Thyroid-Fixer”, is host to the top-rated podcast in medicine and alternative health: The Thyroid Fixer™, with listeners around the globe. She is the founder of The Institute for Thyroid and Hormone Optimization, an organization with transformational, proven approaches to address thyroid dysfunction and support people in returning to full health.

Dr. Amie is also the creator of The Fixxr™ Supplement line with revolutionary, proprietary supplements that are changing the lives of many people.  Ultimately, she is a woman on a mission to optimize thyroid patients around the world and give them their lives back.

After her own experience of insufferable symptoms, misdiagnoses and improper treatment, Dr. Amie set out to help others who she KNEW were going through the same set of frustrations and who were on the same medical roller coaster.

She grabs your hand, gives you answers about your health that no one has told you and gives you the actual tools and personalized treatment to fix you. What makes her program unique is the extra support and accessibility that you can’t find anywhere else. That’s the transformational journey. With a focus on optimizing thyroid and hormone function, and thus optimizing her patients, Dr. Amie looks at you as a unique individual and not JUST a lab value. She examines all factors that tie into thyroid dysfunction and thyroid symptoms and FIXES you to give you your life back.

Here's a little bit about me. Over 20 years ago I was competing in fitness and figure competitions and doing fitness modeling where I always had to keep my body in fantastic shape (not easy on my 5’2 frame). During one contest prep I ended up gaining over 20 pounds and felt like absolute garbage. Six different doctors misdiagnosed me (YES 6!) and told me I was “normal”. The 7th doctor diagnosed me with hypothyroidism and then stuck me on Synthroid which did absolutely nothing for my symptoms. After researching a bit on my own I knew I would be stuck in the “Synthroid box” as I call it, if I stayed in the conventional medicine system.

So, I did what you should do…I started working with a Functional Medicine Practitioner who is now my mentor. My thyroid was optimized and I got my life back. I then decided to pursue a Master Degree in Clinical Nutrition and become a certified Functional Medicine Practitioner. Now I’m a Doctor of Clinical Nutrition as well a leading Functional Medicine expert in thyroid conditions, hormonal dysfunction and weight issues. It takes clinical investigation to get to the underlying factors of chronic disease. You can’t band-aid your symptoms and wish them to go away. It doesn’t work that way. We have to customize your treatment plans in order to fit YOU. In a nutshell…that’s what I do. I fix broken metabolisms and broken people. I give you your life back.

I’m based in Erie Pennsylvania where I was born and raised but my patients span the globe including multiple cities and states in the US as well as the UK and Australia. Yes, telehealth works and allows me to help thousands of patients per year. If you haven’t guessed yet, I love what I do, I love teaching you what I know and I absolutely love seeing the results my patients get when they finally feel like their old selves again.

Danielle Blackwell, MSN, WHNP-BC

Danielle’s journey began at the age of 18 as a West Point Cadet and Army Cheerleader at the United States Military Academy, where she fell in love with her husband. She continues to serve her country and the women of her community as a Military Spouse, Certified Group Fitness Instructor, and a Women’s Health Nurse Practitioner.  Danielle has three incredible daughters that bless her life with patience, love, and purpose.  She treasures family time, exercise, live music, outdoors, and delicious food.  With a “service first” heart, Danielle has lived in many unique locations and experienced healthcare at its best and its worst.

Danielle dedicated years to serving patients, but became disenchanted with the limitations and inflexibility of traditional healthcare.  She suffered first-hand from lactose intolerance, debilitating IBS, and Hashimotos’s. Many providers gave her the same routine feedback - “your labs are in the normal range” - which never overcame her sluggishness and a feeling that something was missing.  They treated her symptoms, never her problems.  As a provider herself, Danielle met with thousands of postpartum, perimenopause, and menopause patients who were suffering from conventional treatments.  Henceforth, Danielle innately sought to be part of the solution; provide care - not sick care.

Danielle believes in the power of balance and moderation.  Strong relationships, enriched  lifestyles, routine workouts, wholesome sleep, stress relief, the beautiful outdoors, love, and ultimately …  purpose …  all point to long, healthy, and happy lives.  Danielle believes in treating the whole picture of the whole patient.  Find the sweet spot to become your best Self, because you cannot pour from an empty cup.

Danielle resides in Huntsville, Alabama with her husband, three girls, and their blue Great Dane, Sam.

Danielle wants every person to enjoy life and feel their best.

Stephanie Cox

I'm a Health Coach, Function Diagnostic Nutrition Practitioner (FDN-P), certified Gut Thrive Practioner, and a Certified Practitioner of Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP).

I was born and raised in Austin, Texas.  I am a wife and a mother of the sweetest little girl. My passion for holistic healing started with my own journey. At the ripe age of 18 years old I was diagnosed with Endometriosis(a condition that causes endometrial cells/ lesions to grow in places is doesn’t belong), I suffered from debilitating menstrual cycles since the start.

After trying ALL of the things my doctors suggested to "help" my pain and suffering I turned away from modern medicine and toward holistic healing. I knew I needed to dive deeper and heal on a deep level issue instead of the band-aid approach.

The stress in my life compounded further exasperating my health. I got much sicker and felt like I was a lost cause. I received yet another diagnosis (Hashimoto's an autoimmune thyroid condition), I had zero energy, my hair was falling out, my nails were splitting, my stress was at an all time high. But, this was my turning point! I was sick and tired of being sick and tired.

After working with a few holistic practitioners and having some wins here and there, I decided I wanted to dedicate my life work to helping people heal themselves.

I started my studies with the Institute of Integrative Nutrition, I loved the
knowledge and wanted more. Since I wanted to be able to run functional labs and be able to dive deeper into the root cause for myself and others, I pursued my Practitioner-ship from Functional Diagnostic Nutrition. What makes me a great holistic health practitioner is that I relate to health struggles and empathize with peoples healing journeys.

Since I studied several different dietary theories and coaching methods my knowledge is unique. I get to help co-create a personalized path toward your health and life goals.

I truly believe every person is uniquely beautiful!

Christina Cadden

I am a board certified Family Nurse Practitioner and registered nurse. I spent the majority of my nursing career in critical care. I approach all patients with a holistic view as that was the basis of my nursing program and career.

I was born and raised in Texas. My own journey started about two years ago when I noticed that I was losing hair and tired all the time. Add that in with all the other stressors in my life and it made for a very frustrating time. I was told over and over that I was just getting older and that these symptoms were just part of becoming older. I refused to let that be, diving further into functional medicine knowing that each human being  requires different approaches to their health. This lead me to no longer accept the standard answer of your just becoming older and find help elsewhere.

The further I dove into functional medicine the more passion I developed for helping others! I believe in everyone finding what works for them and hope that I can be a part of their journey to healing.

I spend my free time when I am not working with my family. We love to travel, go hiking and take our chocolate lab for walks.
